Fundraising For The Homeless!

Happy Sunday everyone!

So my first semester of uni is now over for Christmas but for my first term of assignments, my friends and I have been working with an amazing organisation within my city and I want to show you guys all the work we have done!

street-purple

So the organisation we are working with is Matthew’s House. This organisation is set up in Swansea, Wales to help tackle the big issue of homelessness. Matthew’s House is also partnered with Matt’s Café run by the same group of volunteers where people can come and eat and drink and only pay what they feel like. All money that the organisation receives then go towards feeding and helping those who are out on the streets.

It only costs 70p to feed one homeless person!

Not only this, the organisation also set up their own project:

‘The Homeless Period Swansea’ of which aims to help women during that dreaded time of the month. Their moto is that homeless or underprivileged women should not have to choose between eating or basic comfort.

So with this in mind, we asked them if there was any other projects that they were planning and one included rebuilding their shower. The fact they have a shower for the homeless to wash and get clean is amazing but there is one issue. The drainage system below does not do its job properly. So with this in mind, we decided to dedicate all our fundraising to fix the shower system. The quote to fixing the shower system is a hefty £1500 but we decided to go on a basis of try and raise as much as we can instead of setting a certain amount.

Here was our first fundraising event – Bag Packing in Tesco!

Through our day of fundraising, we managed to raise a whopping £287!

If any of you guys would like to find out more then visit:

You can also become a friend of Matthew’s House by signing up to give an amount of your choice here:

See you soon guys!!

Blogger Product Swap&Review!

Good morning to you all!

So since I have kick started my blog again, I’ve been thinking of ways to interact with my readers and other bloggers and I thought of an idea that I did previously blog about before.

Since I run a fashion, beauty and lifestyle blog, a big part of my posts typically revolves around different types of products and what not. I loooove recommending the products I use to others and hearing the feedback they’ve had from it.

So, I came up with the idea of a ‘blogger 2 blogger, swap 2 swap’ segment. This means that myself and another blogger (maybe even yourself reading this!) can pick out a product that we personally use all the time and send it over to each other to try out and then blog our review and opinion of it! And the best part is, it doesn’t have to just be once! I try out new products all the time, especially when I go out shopping and I think a lot of the products I use could definitely come in useful for many of you guys too!

So…

If you love the idea of this and would like to collaborate with me, then either leave a comment with your email or preferred way to contact you or email me @ collectivecoutureblog@gmail.com and I will get back to you ASAP!

I am so excited to try this out as I love to make new friends and see the other types of blogs out there! If we collaborate then I will also feature your blog on my blog to let other bloggers know you’re down to collaborate!

I look forward to hearing from you guys and I can’t wait to collaborate!!

Have the best day&wrap up warm!

love jess

Hello, hello!

Hi all!

It has been an awfully long time since I last blogged anything! And my life has progressed and changed dramatically during the time I have been gone. So, since I’m back, I thought I’d create a little post just to update you all and to talk about future plans!

Well, I’m 18 now which means…I’m in uni!! College was absolutely amazing and was one of the best couple years of my life! I made some amazing friends and met some incredible people of whom I know are with me for life! Towards the end of the final year, assignments were getting tough and the anticipation for university places was wild but we all got there in the end and I most definitely ended up where I wanted to be! Now, I’m in the best uni studying Business Management! Literally on my first day, I made some new friends of which a month on from then, I consider my closest friends of which I know will be a huge part of my life from here on. So far, we’ve submitted our first assignment which was exciting but nerve racking at the same time cause university is a lot more strict than your average school or college, so now we sit and wait! (and carry on with our other assignments at the same time!)

There is soooo many other things I want to share with you all but I’ll talk more about that in my journal next time!

I am going to get back in with the reviews and what not so bare with as that all gets back on track!

Also, if you haven’t already, please check out my Instagram! You can find the link and my recent posts on the sidebar. I follow back everyone that follows me too! Also, you can add me on snapchat @ jessrees9.

That’s all for now, but check back in a few days where I figure out the days I will be posting and what not.

Love, jess

Do something for others this Christmas

Good evening my lovelies!

Well its that time again! It’s almost Christmas!

At the start of the year, I made a New Years Resolution to do something special for someone less fortunate than me. It is quickly approaching Christmas and I love this time of year! Buying the Christmas tree, the Christmassy vibes, the presents, the family gatherings, etc… ahhh I just love it! It came to my mind how lucky I am and that many people aren’t as fortunate as me so I wanted to do my bit and buy underprivileged families and children presents and give the homeless something to keep them warm and some everyday necessities.  I even posted my idea on Facebook to see if any of my friends were interested in doing I with me!

I hope this inspired you guys to do something similar so here are some links on how to help in your area!

www.salvationarmyappeals.org.uk/donate

https://www.samaritans-purse.org.uk/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/

Its also worth checking your local charities and researching events around your local area. If you live outside of the UK, these links may not apply to you but still check out your local charities.

If you are sending shoeboxes off to other countries then please remember no liquids! I advise small presents with Barbie dolls, cars, sweets, etc…

I hope you all have lots of fun making other people happy! Get your friends and family involved and make it fun!

I’d love to see the ideas you’ve come up with so please send in your photos to me at collectivecoutureblog@gmail.com and I’ll post them to the blog!

Have fun!

love,

Jess xo

How to nail your job interview!

Happy Monday!

Since we (or many of us) are on summer break, now is the perfect time to start thinking about ‘that’ word – a job. Now in my opinion, I’ve always had this dread about getting a job but in total honesty, it’s not that bad!

Over a month ago, I applied for a position as a waitress in a restaurant at my local holiday park. I heard from my many friends that work there that it’s a lovely place to work so I was open to apply there. So I did it. I called and by surprise, no interview was necessary. Instead, I got offered a trial. Being new to the world of waitressing, I’m not sure if this is how it works but I took the offer and went down on a sunny Saturday to start. I had a tour around the ‘behind the scenes’ of the restaurant, being taught how everything works, where everything goes, etc… and my first assigned task was glass and plate collecting – easy enough. After my first shift of about 3 hours, I had secured a place as permanent staff. – But I didn’t stop there. I also applied for a job in a high street store to go along side my time as a waitress equalling more income. Luckily enough, I received a reply – but with the exception of an interview. The closest I’d been to an interview was for a place at college. As nerve-racking as it was, with the proper mind set and courtesy, I nailed it and now, I’m going to give you some tips on how to get the best outcome from your interview.

1.

Do your research of the shop, business, etc.. you’ve applied for, just so you’ve got an idea of what the job entails. For example, if you’ve applied to a high street store like Debenhams, do a little research on the brands that are in the certain department you have applied for.

2.

When it comes to the day of the interview, dress appropriately. In job interviews I tend to go for all black with the finish of a co-ordinating colour necklace. Black work/school trousers, black shirt or top and a tux style work jacket in black. This give you an aura of seriousness and adds well to first impressions.

3.

During the interview is the most important part (obviously). Teach yourself to reply to answers appropriately. For example, if they are asking you a yes or no answer question, learn to reply with ‘yes’ rather than ‘yeah’. Although something small, this could make a big difference to how your common courtesy looks to other people giving them another reason to give you the job is they think you can talk and handle customers with maturity.

4.

Don’t lie!! If you lie on your CV or say something opposite to what you have written on your CV then this a real give away and you’ll most likely be declined the job. Make sure you are truthful about everything and add everything you have achieved and can think of to give you extra credit – even if it has no relation to your job, these skills will give your employer a good impression of you.

5.

Pay close attention to what the employer is saying. Even though its an everyday skill, you’d be surprised how much you miss without full attention. Sit up straight in a comfortable position, place your hands on your lap and give your full attention to the interview.

6.

You’re guaranteed to be called sometime after your interview to let you know if you got the position or not. Remember, even through the phone, speak with the same maturity, friendliness and appreciation. It’s a natural human instinct to react well to a friendly manner.

7.

If you get the job – congratulations! You did it! If not, don’t feel disheartened. You won’t always get the job but keep trying! Keep doing your research, and you’ll eventually find something perfect for you!

8.

It’s natural to be nervous, but try to not let it affect you too much. Speak with confidence, keep good body language and you’ll race through it with ease!

9.

If you’re applying for a job, it’s okay to keep it to yourself and not share with your friends just yet. As selfless as you maybe, you’re doing yourself a favour by making this your priority.

10.

Have fun with it! Don’t think of it like you’re taking an exam. Think of it with excitement to start earning money. This will bring more motivation and confidence to you which are exactly the right things you need to help you get through it all.

Good luck everyone! I WISH YOU THE BEST IN YOUR INTERVIEWS AND JOBS AND IF YOU ARE APPLYING/GOING FOR AN INTERVIEW ANY TIME SOON, I’D LOVE TO KNOW HOW YOU GOT ON!

until next time my loves,

jess xo

The 10 commandments of easy, healthy living

Having a healthy lifestyle is no doubt one of the biggest concerns in today’s society, of course, because its so important! But not many people know that there are indeed the 10 commandments for a healthy lifestyle, and that’s exactly what I’m bringing you today – enjoy!

1. Thou Shalt Drink More Water

If you’re working with a foggy, tired brain a lot of the time and aren’t sure what’s affecting your health, this may be a sign of regular dehydration. Staying hydrated helps energise your body, rids it of toxins, and helps your body work at its top potential. Sip on plenty of water all day to keep energy levels up and soaring and your body working hard for you.

2. Thou Shalt Take Part in Consistent Exercise

Regardless of any weight-loss goals, exercise needs to be a consistent part of your healthy lifestyle. It keeps sickness at bay, boosts your mood, increases productivity, and so much more. You will be amazed how much healthier you feel when you exercise regularly.

3. Thou Shalt Remember That Food Is Fuel

Choosing whole, natural clean foods over processed junk puts your body in a position to perform at its top potential. Treat your body like the luxury vehicle it is, and opt for premium fuel whenever possible! Making this shift in your mind is essential to sustaining a healthy diet for the long haul. These clean-eating rules are the perfect starter kit to developing a healthier relationship with food.

4. Thou Shalt Take Time to Breathe

For those who haven’t gotten the memo yet, making time to meditate is worth the effort. Studies have shown a correlation between meditation and reduction of gray matter in the amygdala, the region connected to anxiety and emotional regulation; meditation has also been shown to decrease insomnia by 42 percent. Even if you’re not ready to commit to a formal meditation practice, just taking three deep breaths when you’re worried or stressed can help you loosen up and feel lighter. Try it right now — it works!

5. Thou Shalt Laugh More

Laughing helps keep stress levels low and positive feelings high. You might be surprised to learn that studies have shown that adults who have a sense of humour outlive those who don’t. When things feel tough, watch a funny video, read your favourite article, or call a friend or family member who always makes you chuckle. Every giggle supports your healthy, happy goals.

6. Thou Shalt Not Eliminate Entire Food Groups

All protein? All carbs? All cookies? Too little (or too much) of anything is bad news. Our bodies need a balanced diet in order to survive and function at their highest potential. Depriving yourself of certain food groups may seem like a quick fix for a short time, but it’s simply not sustainable for long-term weight-loss goals, and it does not support a balanced and healthy life.

7. Thou Shalt Get Some Fresh Air

Feeling stuck indoors leaves you feeling drained and disconnected. Step away from work, go outside for some fresh air and sunny rays, and take a walk during your break. It may feel like a luxury to leave, but you’ll come back to whatever you were working on with a fresh perspective and much more energy. This also goes for the weekend! Take advantage of Summer’s sunny skies and warm temperatures and relax in nature and reconnect with yourself.

8. Thou Shalt Strive For 80/20

The occasional indulgence is essential for a balanced and healthy life, and that’s why following the 80/20 principle is a great technique. The breakdown is simple: 80 percent of the time you focus on eating clean, good-for-you foods, and 20 percent of the time you have the freedom to indulge as you please. This means you can absolutely enjoy a meal out or refreshing cocktail, but it’s not an everyday occurrence. (Your wallet also thanks you in advance for this one.)

9. Thou Shalt Listen to Thy Body

Consistently healthy people help their bodies work with them instead of against them. It can be tough when there’s tons of fun plans on the horizon, but when you’re feeling immunocompromised, it’s essential to take a break for yourself. Folks who listen to their bodies put down their fork when they’ve had enough, hit up a yoga class when they need a release, and don’t pour that extra cocktail when they know it’s not the best idea. Once you find this awareness, you’ll be amazed by how much your body has to say.

10. Thou Shalt Get to Bed

Not getting enough sleep can lead to a whole slew of consequences from higher blood pressure to memory loss. Be sure to get at least seven hours of sleep every night to keep you alert and energised to take on the day. And if you’re having a hard time getting adequate shut-eye, these sleep tips will help you get to bed.

And there you have it, 10 things to live by to ensure your lifestyle stays as healthy as possible!

have a good day my loves,
